Observations from the Unknown – Kepler-62e & Kepler-62f
An Original Paper Cut Artwork from Owen Gildersleeve's first US solo show 'Observations from the Unknown'. The show was held at the Argonaut Gallery in San Francisco and consisted of nine original papercut artworks celebrating some of the greatest findings by NASA's Kepler spacecraft over its nine year mission.
20% of the proceeds from each sale will go to the amazing charity Arts Emergency helping to support children from diverse backgrounds, working with those least able to access higher education in the Arts, Humanities & Sciences.
This artwork celebrates two planets discovered in the star system Kepler-62 located 990 light years from Earth. The star has five planets, two of which, Kepler-62e and Kepler-62f are within the star’s “habitable zone” – Also known as the ‘Goldilocks Zone’ where the temperature is neither too hot nor too cold and so leading to the possibility of life. The artwork depicts various details about the newly discovered planet, including the radius and orbital periods as well as being an abstract typographic representation.
Each artwork is one of a kind hand cut out of multiple layers of coloured paper in Owen's studio and placed onto a stiff backing board. The final artwork has been mounted in a bespoke handcrafted white wooden box frame using museum quality UV filtered perspex, to give a high-quality and long lasting protective finish. The frame is finished with fastenings for easy hanging. All original artworks are sent with a Certificate of Authenticity and are posted Tracked via Special Delivery for safe shipping.
Due to the handcrafted nature of this artwork it may contain some nicks and irregularities which are a charming part of the hand-making process and make the piece truly unique.
