An Original Paper Cut Artwork from Owen Gildersleeve's first US solo show 'Observations from the Unknown'.
The show was held at the Argonaut Gallery in San Francisco and consisted of nine original papercut artworks celebrating some of the greatest findings by NASA's Kepler spacecraft over its nine year mission. 20% of the proceeds from each sale will go to the amazing charity Arts Emergency helping to support children from diverse backgrounds, working with those least able to access higher education in the Arts, Humanities & Sciences.
This artwork celebrates the star system Kepler-90 located 2,545 light-years from Earth in the constellation of Draco. It is notable for having a planetary system that has an equal number of observed planets to our Solar System, with the eighth planet being discovered by Kepler on December 14th 2017. The artwork shows the radius of each planet compared to its counterpart in our solar system, using playful layering to bring the overlapping forms to life to create this bold abstract artwork.
Each artwork is one of a kind hand cut out of multiple layers of coloured paper in Owen's studio and placed onto a stiff backing board. The final artwork has been mounted in a bespoke handcrafted white wooden box frame using museum quality UV filtered perspex, to give a high-quality and long lasting protective finish. The frame is finished with fastenings for easy hanging.
All original artworks are sent with a Certificate of Authenticity and are posted Tracked via Special Delivery for safe shipping. Due to the handcrafted nature of this artwork it may contain some nicks and irregularities which are a charming part of the hand-making process and make the piece truly unique.
